  • 07.04 July 4 Parade & 3-D Fireworks
    Skokie has become known on the North Shore, not only for its stellar Fourth of July Parade, but for its fantastic annual 3-D Fireworks Festival. Parade The parade kicks off the festivities at noon and features marching bands, tumblers, drill teams, clowns, vintage automobiles, and more. The parade will run on Oakton Street, east from Downtown to Oakton Park. Parade website Sherman Dodge Presents: Skokie's 3D Fireworks Festival At 5 p.m. the fun moves to Niles West High School (Oakton Street just west of the Edens Expressway) with "Sherman Dodge Presents: Skokie's 3-D Fireworks Fest," featuring food, drinks and music. The first 10,000 patrons to arrive will receive a free pair of 3-D glasses. The concert begins at 6:30 p.m., featuring Ryan Ideus & The Feudin' Hillbillys, followed by The Spoken Four. Childrens' games and face painting will also begin at 6:30 p.m. The spectacular 3-D Fireworks Fest begins, at dusk. (The fireworks rain date is July 5.) For more information call (847) 674-1500.     Your National Parks: A Photographic Journey by Judi Peman July 5 - September 10 Reception: July 14, 7-9 p.m. Abstract and scenic views from eight of the 59 U.S. National Parks are showcased with short, informative text highlighting interesting features of each park. The parks include Acadia in Maine; Arches, Bryce and Canyonlands in Utah; Badlands in South Dakota; Yellowstone and Grand Teton in Wyoming; and Glacier-Waterton International Peace Park in Montana and Alberta, Canada. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturdays, and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sundays.

  • 07.15 World Wiffleball Championship
    The 38th Annual World WiffleBall Championship, the world's largest and oldest, is set for July 15-16, 2017. Four- to five-player teams, ages 10+, will all play a four-game schedule on Saturday, followed by a single elimination tournament for top qualifiers on Sunday. The tournament will be played rain or shine.   Over the years, the event — which grew up in the shadow of Notre Dame's famed golden dome — has been featured on ESPN's SportsCenter, in Men's Health, in USA Today, in the book "101 Baseball Places to See Before You Strike Out" (ranked #27), and on Fox, CBS, ABC and NBC-TV.     Join us for evening of singing, clapping and strumming around the campfire! Follow song sheets as we sing traditional camp songs and then roast marshmallows over the fire. Ages 3+.   • 09.10 Photo Contest Deadline
    Emily Oaks Nature Photography Contest Deadline Shoot your photos now for the annual Emily Oaks Nature Photography Contest in September! Photos must be taken at the Nature Center by amateur photographers and can be entered in three categories: wildlife, scenery, and people in nature. Up to nine black and white or color photos mounted in a mat frame or on mat board may be submitted. Photos must be between 5”x7” and 8”x10”. Photos will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 10, and will be open for People's Choice voting from September 16 through October 1 with photos displayed through November. Ribbons and prizes are awarded for each category. Entry fees are $6 for the first photo and $4 for each additional entry.
