New Adult General classes will be held at the Oakton Community Center featuring a range of topics for participants ages 15–59.

Please note that while classes may display below as available, registration does not open until the following dates:

Soulful CPR

This is a blended Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED learning course. In it, students will learn to recognize and care for a variety of first aid breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants. It is designed for students who need a certification that satisfies OSHA workplace or other regulatory requirements. There is an online portion (accessed via mobile desktop or tablet) that must be completed prior to attending the instructor-led skills session. Upon successful completion a valid 2-year digital certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED is issued.

Modern Mahjongg

Learn to play the very popular game of American Mahjongg in this Modern Mahjongg program designed for adults ages 21–59. American Mahjongg is a game played with beautiful tiles, developed in China and brought to the United States, where it has been enjoyed for decades. This fascinating and social game has recently gained renewed popularity among players of all ages. Instruction is provided by Sylvia Taflove, who has been teaching Mahjongg for over 10 years.

Canasta Lessons

Learn the basics of this classic card game while playing Triple Play, a fun variation of Canasta that uses seven decks of cards. It’s easy to learn and enjoyable to play! ACT Prep Course

This course covers all four sections of the ACT—English, Math, Reading, and Science—in the order students will encounter them on test day. Each session includes: A review of key content and concepts Instruction in test-taking strategies Timed practice sections At the conclusion of each class, students will have the opportunity to ask questions and review areas of concern. They will receive immediate scores on their practice work, followed by guided error analysis during the final 20 minutes to help them understand their mistakes and improve performance. The final virtual session is dedicated to addressing individual questions and reviewing any of the four sections based on student needs, ensuring that each participant feels fully prepared for the practice exam. The course also identifies gaps in knowledge—topics students may not have encountered in school but are essential for success on the ACT and in college. Final Practice Exam (Paper-Based) – Sunday, December 6 Students will experience a realistic testing environment by completing a full-length, enhanced practice ACT beginning at 9:00 AM at the Oakton Community Center. Prompt scoring will be provided to offer immediate insight into performance. This course is conducted by SPAN Test Prep.
