Public Skating Sessions

Weekdays ending May 9
Tuesday/Thursday/Friday: 10:15 a.m.–1 p.m.
Wednesday: 11:15 a.m.–1 p.m.

Weekends ending April 19 (Summer hours begin again on June 6)
Friday: 7:15–8:30 p.m.*
Saturday/Sunday: 2–3:15 p.m.

Public Skating Fees
All Ages: $7

No reservations are required for public skate sessions or events, please pay your admission and skate rental fee at the Skate Rental desk upon arrival.

Birthday Party Packages

45 minutes in the Party Room. Capacity: 50

One hour of exclusive ice time.

One round of cups, napkins and cake plates.

Skate rental: $2.50 per pair

Practice ice allows figure skaters to practice on their own, take private lessons with their coaches, run their competition programs with music, and prepare for moves, ice dance and freestyle tests. Non-staff coaches are welcome to teach at the Skatium. Please contact Skating Director Christine Hathaway for non-staff coach requirements at (847) 674-1500, ext. 2925.

Practice Time Schedule: Through May 10

Fees
60-minute session: $12 with Easy Card or $15 drop-in
45-minute session: $10 with Easy Card or $13 drop-in

If you skate during a 60-minute session, then you must purchase a 60-minute session. If your skater's private lesson is only 30 minutes, they will have the other 30 minutes for practice. Skaters must have an Easy Card on file. If no Easy Card is on file, you will be charged the drop-in rate. The session must be paid for in the office before taking the ice. Drop-in rates are NOT available for morning sessions. Sign-in on the clipboard is required.

Snowplow Sam 1 (3yrs)

For skaters with little or no skating experience. Emphasis will be on marching, gliding, balance and control. Please arrive 10 minutes ahead of your class to get your skates on. Skate rental for classes is $2.50/pair. You may pre-pay for the session upon registration. Your skater will need to wear warm clothes including athletic-style pants or leggings, socks that go higher than the ankle, jacket or sweatshirt, and gloves or mittens. We discourage snow pants as they are bulky and usually slippery making it difficult for the skater to stand up on their own. On the first day of classes, your skater’s instructors will go over basics in the lobby before getting on the ice, including how to march on ice and how to properly fall down and get up. We know that for most of your children, this is the first time they are ice skating. Our instructors are trained to work with absolute beginners. After the first week, your skater can come directly to the ice at the time of their class. There will be an evaluation on the second to last week of class to determine their next class placement. Ice skating involves a considerable amount of balance, control and concentration. Please be sure that your skater has had a snack and has used the bathroom prior to class.

Axel Workshop

Axel Workshop is a class dedicated to specific axel technique exercises to help your skater achieve this benchmark jump. The first 30 minutes of the class will meet off the ice in the Party Room. Off ice jump exercises will be used to develop muscle memory. Skaters will then have 10 minutes to take a break and tie their skates. The second half of the class will be on the ice. On-ice exercises will include work on back scratch spin, loop position, getting more lift, and spinning faster in the air. For skaters in Free Skate 5 and up.

Snowplow Sam 1 (3 years old)

Snowplow Sam 1 is designed for skaters with little or no ice skating experience. Emphasis will be on balance and control. Please arrive 10 minutes ahead of your class to get your skates on. Skate rental for classes is $2.50/pair. You may pre-pay for the session upon registration. Your skater will need to wear warm clothes including athletic-style pants or leggings, socks that go higher than the ankle, jacket or sweatshirt, and gloves or mittens. We discourage snow pants as they are bulky and usually slippery making it difficult for the skater to stand up on their own. On the first day of classes, your skater’s instructors will go over basics in the lobby before getting on the ice, including how to march on ice and how to properly fall down and get up. We know that for most of your children, this is the first time they are ice skating. Our instructors are trained to work with absolute beginners. After the first week, your skater can come directly to the ice at the time of their class. There will be an evaluation on the second to last week of class to determine their next class placement. Ice skating involves a considerable amount of balance, control and concentration. Please be sure that your skater has had a snack and has used the bathroom prior to class.
