Active Adult programs for adults ages 60 plus are organized out of the Oakton Community Center's Lounge. The overall program features drop-in programs, exercise classes, Monday movies, card clubs, seasonal parties, health and wellness fairs, shopping trips, lunch and dinner outings, day trips, vacation getaways and more.

The 60-plus Lounge at the Oakton Community Center is available to members only and offers a big screen TV, card tables and books.

Membership offers unlimited use of the lounge, during lounge hours, by reservation, a $10 annual program voucher to use toward active adult exercise, parties or trips at the Oakton Center, and free movie and popcorn Mondays. For more information, please email Janeen, jagorelick@skokieparks.org.

Medicare 101

This seminar is for those new to Medicare or close to their enrollment date or have been a Medicare beneficiary for some time but never really understood their coverage. Joliet Railroad & Planinsek Market Museum Tours

Our first stop will be at The Joliet Railroad Museum, a circa 1913 interlocking signal tower, known locally as Union Depot Tower. The museum features information on the railroad companies that operated lines through Joliet and their ensuing legacies. After our tour, we will head to the nearby Martin & Emma Planinsek Museum. The house museum emulates a corner grocery store in operation from 1926 through 1961, owned and operated by Slovenian immigrants Martin and Emma Planinsek. Following our tours, we will have lunch at a nearby restaurant. Fee includes transportation, tours, and lunch.

Deep Water Aerobics

By suspending the body in deep water, you have a greater range of motion with fewer limitations. This class incorporates a balanced workout that includes warm-up, aerobic training and cool down. You will burn calories through low impact cardio exercise and muscle strengthening. We provide a floatation belt to use during class. All participants must be able to swim in deep water. Move & Groove Line Dance

Get your feet moving and your body grooving as you flow to the rhythms of soul, pop, Latin, and a little bit of country. This beginner class is an introduction to line dance and perfect for those returning to or just beginning their dance journey. Emphasis will be on proper step techniques and how to combine them, foot placement and learning to flow with the music. Line dancing is a fun way to exercise your brain, work on balance, improve your stamina and memory all with low impact to your joints. If you can count to eight, you can line dance! Tinker Swiss Cottage Tour

Rockford is home to the Tinker Swiss Cottage, a historic Victorian house museum, barn, and carriage house built by the Tinker family. The museum collection contains 98 percent of original pieces from the family. We will take a 90-minute guided tour.
