The Skokie Park District is considering placing a bond referendum on the November 3, 2026 ballot to fund capital projects at two potential sites. The proposal would transform an undeveloped asphalt site into Channelside Park South and improve Sports Park East, enhancing indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities while strengthening connections between both parks and the North Shore Channel Trail.

Community input will guide our next steps. A public opinion survey will be available, and you are encouraged to attend one of the following public information meetings:

Saturday, June 6 at 9:30 a.m.
Sunday, June 7 at 1 p.m.
Weber Leisure Center
9300 Weber Park Pl.

Focused on Community Needs

Over the past several years, community input has consistently identified priorities such as more walking paths; additional green space; ADA-compliant playgrounds; outdoor gathering and event spaces; and expanded sports, fitness, and recreation opportunities for all ages. In a landlocked community with limited opportunities to add parkland, long-term planning has identified two sites to potentially address these needs.

Channelside Park South: An Inspired Transformation

The proposal would transform an undeveloped former industrial site along the North Shore Channel into Channelside Park South. This vibrant waterfront destination would feature expansive green space, scenic paths, and natural landscapes; accessible playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment; a renovated multipurpose facility; and a bandshell and event lawn.

Expanding Recreation at Sports Park East

To expand and improve year-round recreation, sports, and fitness opportunities for all ages, the proposal would update Sports Park East. Amenities would include a new recreation center with indoor courts, upgraded athletic fields with new sports lighting, and other high-priority outdoor amenities.
