Park Board Commissioner seat up for election

One seat on the five-member Skokie Park District Board of Commissioners will be filled at the April 6, 2021 election. The Commissioners meet at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month for the Board of Commissioners meeting and as needed for special meetings, committee meetings and public hearings, at the Weber Leisure Center. Park Commissioners serve a term of six years without compensation.

Filing for candidacy requires collecting not less than 111 signatures of registered and qualified voters of the Skokie Park District on the petitions for nomination, completing and filing a statement of economic interest with the Cook County Clerk, and filing a statement of candidacy. Candidates may also file an optional loyalty oath. Please note that the receipt for the statement of economic interest must be filed with the Skokie Park District either together with the nomination petitions and statement of candidacy or separately, no later than Monday, December 21, 2020 at 5 p.m.

Candidates must be residents of the Skokie Park District for a minimum of one year prior to the election. Per Park District Code 2-11 “a person is not eligible to serve as park commissioner if that person is in arrears in the payment of a tax or other indebtedness due to the park district or has been convicted in any court located in the United States of any infamous crime, bribery, perjury or felony.”

The first day to circulate nomination papers for the April 6, 2021 consolidated Election is Tuesday, September 22, 2020. A candidate packet may be picked up beginning Monday, September 21, 2020 at the Weber Leisure Center Administration Office, 9300 Weber Park Place, Skokie, IL 60077, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The dates to file candidate paperwork are December 14-21, 2020. Filing of nomination petitions and related forms will be received at the Skokie Park District in care of Ann Perez, Weber Leisure Center Administrative Office, 9300 Weber Park Place, Skokie, IL. 60077 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
