Join your theatre friends in an opportunity to sing from the musical of your choice! Directors assist you in preparing your performance, culminating in night of Broadway fun on Friday, October 30 at 7P when you perform for friends.

As a performer you keep your body and voice in good shape but it’s also important for actors at any level to keep their skills sharp by going back to the basics. Join our theatre professionals each week as they lead actors in exercises made famous by great acting teachers: Viola Spolin, Sanford Meisner, Konstantin Stanislavsky and Uta Hagen. 30-minute sessions are held each week. Registration is per month but we are able to add drop-ins if the monthly registration meets a minimum. Sing your way to fame and light up the Broadway stage. Learn songs, scenes and choreography from the Broadway greats, past and present. Solo and ensemble work will be part of this class. Thin Ice Ensemble Theatre welcomes 8-12 year old home school students who want to act on stage. Everyone who registers will be cast. Rehearsals are Mondays, 9/14-11/30 from 12-3P. Young artists develop foundational skills and techniques designed to strengthen confidence, self-expression, focus and social skills as well as inspiring creativity through dramatic play, imaginative theatre games, storytelling, dance and song. Students dramatize their own stories and appear in a show for friends and family on December 15 at 6:45P. No class will be held on 11/24.

The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker. Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance amongst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin. When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow takes him in. Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sikes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family. All who register will be cast. Rehearsals will occur two weekday evenings and one weekend afternoon per week until the final two weeks before opening performance when it will increase to four then five rehearsals per week. More detailed information on the rehearsal schedule can be provided in August. Performances are Saturdays & Sundays, November 14 & 21 at 7:00 PM and November 15 & 22 at 3:00 PM

Casting is by audition for ages 12-19. Auditions are: September 21 from 1-3P. To schedule an audition, email rgoldberg@skokieparks.org. Rehearsals run Tuesdays & Wednesdays, September 9–December 18, 12-3P with holidays December 22–January 3. Technical Rehearsals are January 4-7 from Noon-4P. Performances are January 8 at 10:30am, January 8-9 at 7P & January 10 at 3P.

The young actor develops full rich characters, while practicing truthful use of self in imaginary circumstances. Students select comedic or dramatic scenes from Modern, Shakespearean or Restoration periods. A performance of the work is presented on October 4 for friends and family at 4:30P and may be performed either in memorized form or in readers theatre style.

Students will develop their designs and ideas for a play. The weeks will be focused on concept pitches and design conversations regarding their plays. Each week the students will develop a presentation for the design element in question (scenic, lights, costumes, etc.) We will build a complete picture of the play and helping to develop the “director’s eye.” Students will finish with a presentation through a single scene from their play that implements all the components of the previous weeks. Calling all young performers! In this fun and fast-paced class, students will work together to rehearse and perform a short play or book adaptation. From learning lines and blocking to creating characters and bringing the story to life, participants will experience the excitement of putting on a production from start to finish. Along the way, they'll build confidence, teamwork, and stage skills in a supportive and creative environment. The session will conclude with a performance for family and friends—so get ready to take the stage and shine! Students learn to develop character and practice truthful use of self in imaginary circumstances. Includes: improvisation, scripted scenes, Commedia D’ell Arte (physical/slapstick humor), character movement and basic stage combat. Students also explore theatre of other cultures, practice makeup techniques, costume/prop selection and introduction to stagecraft. There is no class held on 11/25.

Our theatre directors and our chefs are cooking up something very special! Join us as we for a script reading where appetizers or a meal is paired to perfection with the play. Teens, Adults and Seniors will all love the art of dining. Food and beverages are included in your registration fee but wine and beer are $5 extra/serving.

Be aware that the one date listed for this activity is just the start date. The rest of the schedule will be developed between you and the apprentice coordinator. After you register for the show you would like to work on, the coordinator will reach out to you. You will select your specialty area and work 1 day a week throughout the rehearsal process with one of our professionals to become a vital part of the show while you learn! Specialty areas include: Directing, Choreography, Musical Direction, Stage Management, Sound/Lighting Design, Set/Props Construction and Marketing/House Management. Depending on the specialty area selected, you may be asked to take part in the technical rehearsals and performances. Imaginative play, singing, acting, movement, musical theatre games, stories and dance will all be combined in a playful, creative environment to establish the building blocks of performing arts and nurture self-esteem. An end of class showcase with friends and family is featured on October 20 for Session 1 and December 15 for Session 2. Both will begin at 5:45P. There is no class on 11/24.

Students will study 3-4 modern works and engage students in the basic principles of stage writing starting with a reading period, and finishing with a writing and feedback period, culminating in each student having a peer reviewed 10-minute play. Instructor: Elijah Jones

Students learn to develop character and practice truthful use of self in imaginary circumstances. Students explore the theatre of other cultures, experience brief work in front of and behind the camera, plus theatre makeup, costume/prop selection and lighting/sound basics. Includes: basic dance techniques and fundamentals of good vocal production in the musical segment. Also features improvisation, scripted scenes, Commedia Dell Arte (physical/slapstick humor), character movement and basic stage combat in the comedy/drama segment. Ages 12-15 get to try their hand at more challenging scenes from Shakespeare, Greek tragedy and Restoration comedy. Instructors: Elijah Jones and Gayle Starr
