Chippewa & Mulford Park set for new playgrounds

Mulford ParkAt a public hearing this week, Skokie Park District Superintendent of Parks Corrie Guynn unveiled plans for the late summer replacement of the playgrounds and amenities at Chippewa & Mulford Park.

Features of the Chippewa project will include:

  • New swings, including two belt swings, one plastic molded bucket swing and one tot swing.
  • New playground equipment designed for children ages 2-12.  Features of this new playground equipment include four slides, various overhead climbing equipment, a globe spinner and a small playhouse.
  • The existing sand surfacing will be replaced with engineered wood fiber.
  • The existing brick patio will be replaced with a concrete pad.
  • The existing benches and tables will be replaced with a new style.
  • A surface mounted trash receptacle will be added near the entrance of the park.

Features of the Mulford project included:

  • New swings, including two belt swings, one plastic molded bucket swing and one tot swing.
  • New playground equipment designed for children ages 2-12. Features of this new playground equipment include five slides, various overhead climbing equipment, a two to four person spring rocker, a small train that will have “Yellow Line” panes on it and a train station storefront that will say “Skokie Swift – Mulford.”
  • The existing sand surfacing will be replaced with engineered wood fiber.
  • The existing benches and tables will be replaced with a new style.
  • The current trash receptacle will be replaced with a new surface mounted style.

All resident comments received were very positive.

The budget for the Chippewa site is $106,000 and the budget for the Mulford site is $100,000. Both of the projects will run concurrently and are expected to begin in late August or early September 2019.
