Skokie Park District staff today made the difficult decision to cancel all planned first session Summer Camps*, tentatively replacing them with a limited number of new Summer Care programs for ages 4-13. Camp payment credits will be applied to all household accounts, with refund requests also being honored.

Assuming Illinois moves into Phase 3 of its COVID-19 restoration plan in June, the new Summer Care program will begin on June 15, with registration beginning online on May 28.

Summer Care programs will include the following:

  • Six park district facilities will be utilized for general programs, with a limited number of spots for children at each location.
  • If in Phase 3, children will be placed in groups of 10 or less, within each facility. If in Phase 4, children will be placed in groups of 50 or less, within each facility.
  • There will be no bussing, field trips or pool outings during Summer Care.
  • Each Summer Care program will include individualized supplies and group specific equipment.
  • All locations will provide adequate space for activities, in order to keep groups separated.
  • Summer Care programs will include a substantial amount of time outdoors playing games, activities, sports and exploring other interests in the most social setting possible.
  • All participants and staff will be expected to follow all cleaning standards and social distancing practices in accordance with the CDC and IDPH guidelines. (The Camp Policy and Procedure Manual will be adapted for Summer Care and updated no later than June 5 at skokieparks.org/camps/.)
  • All Summer Care staff will have been trained in Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines related to COVID-19.
  • A communication plan with parents and staff will be implemented immediately in the event a COVID-19 case occurs in a staff or participant.

The current plan is to run a session 1, with two, two-week programs, June 15–26 and June 29–July 10. Plans for a session 2, July 13-August 7, and an End of Season program will be communicated no later than July 1.

* Modifications to some ‘specialty’ first session camps such as theater, circus, cooking, ice skating, and hockey, have been emailed to current participants of those specific camps.
