We are proud to introduce our theatre educational program, The Devonshire Theatre Arts Academy. Loosely based on the conservatory style theatre education presented in many leading dramatic institutions, this new set of classes will retain all the wonderful elements of acting and musical theatre that our patrons have enjoyed while also expanding curriculum to make classes serving ages 3 through adults, with a more comprehensive curriculum. Performing classes not only include education and experience with acting, vocal production and movement but also delve in theatre history around the world, speech/diction, and camera styles. Students receive the chance to be promoted into higher level classes where they take on work in Shakespearean, Restoration and Commedia styles, stage combat, and the Alexander Technique. Junior High aged youth can graduate from our program with the Silver Theatre Award. If youth remain in the program during their high school years, they can achieve the Gold Theatre Award by their senior or 18th year. Adult classes are also provided and include all these elements plus current trends on working in the theatre industry. The Technical Apprentice Track I and II is offered for youth, ages 12 , including education/experience in makeup, set, light, sound and prop design, directing, publicity, stage and house management. Finally, we still plan to continue helping participants learn more about cooperation, social interaction, self-confidence and creativity all while having fun and making friends.
