Kimmie Meissner to headline Skatium Re-Opening (Fall 2011)
After a $5 million summer renovation, the Skatium Ice Arena is back and better than ever, ready just in time for the fall 2011 season. One of America's finest teaching facilities is now available for figure skating, hockey, public sessions, birthday parties and room rentals. An official grand opening and open house will be held on Oct. 2, from 1-4 p.m., featuring World Champion Kimmie Meissner, National Champion Ryan Bradley, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and complimentary skating and beverages.
Originally opened in 1973, the two-rink facility put Skokie on the map for resident skaters, as well as for blade enthusiasts throughout Chicagoland. Now, in 2011, the Arena is state-of-art and will continue to serve Skokie, the north shore, and northern Chicago.
Highlights of the $5 million renovation include:
• A state-of-the-art entryway and lobby with natural light pouring through a three-tier multi-layered glass roof. The new lobby is roomy, customer friendly and contemporary.
• Modern locker rooms for the main rink and two new locker rooms adjacent to the studio rink.
• The Weber Park Cafe
• A more convenient skate rental area for Skatium customers.
• Two large party rooms that will accommodate more private events.
• A new golf customer service area for the adjoining Weber Park Golf Course.
• Modern offices that will better serve the public.
Our professional team is excited about the many enhancements to the Arena and invite you to visit the Skatium Web page at www.skokieparks.com for further information.
